Editor's note:  The Bluffview Recreation Area is commonly referred to as the "Re-Regulation Dam", "Re-Reg Dam", or "Lower Dam". 
Mark Twain Lake, August 12, 2008 - On Wednesday, August 13, 2008 the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced in the interest of public safety the
Bluffview Recreation Area is closed to all recreational use until further
notice. Barricades with proper signage will be placed at the intersection of
the access road and State Route A. This closure includes pedestrian and boat
traffic.

As the lake elevation lowers and facilities are cleaned and repaired
and safety inspections performed you will see areas reopen. Areas that remain
closed include John Spalding Beach, Indian Creek Beach, Warren G. See North
and South Spillway Recreation Areas, Joanna & Lick Creek Trails and
Hunter-Fisherman # 11 (Rt N), #20 (Hwy FF), #30 (Rt U), #12, #41(Elkfork),
#23, #53, #54, the Duane Wheelan Access, #70 and #71 and the Bluffview
Recreation Area. For more information, call the Mark Twain Lake Project
