September 14, 2008 – The Salt River basin that forms Mark Twain Lake has been
subjected to heavy precipitation during recent days.  As a result, the lake
level is rising rapidly.  The level at Noon on Sunday September 14 was 621.2
National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD).  The rain that has already fallen is
predicted to bring the lake’s level up to 632.0 NGVD by Wednesday September
17, 2008.  Current releases from the Clarence Cannon Dam total 4,500 cubic
feet per second (cfs) and is expected to increase to 12,000 cfs on Monday.

The project remains open, including major boat launch facilities and
campgrounds. High water boat launch ramps that permit boating at higher
elevations will open as the levels continue to increase.  Some areas are
temporarily closed.  These include the Joanna and Lick Creek Trails,
Hunter-Fisherman Access # 11 (Rt N), 20 (Hwy FF), #23, 30 (Rt U), #33, #12,
#41(Elkfork), #53, #54 and the Duane Wheelan Access.  Other areas that remain
closed due to previous flood damage include the Warren G. See North Spillway
and Bluffview Recreation Area. No vehicles or foot traffic are allowed. The
re-regulation pool is also closed to boating.  This includes Hunter-Fisherman
Access # 70 and the boat launch in the Warren G. South Spillway Recreation
Area.

You will likely find large amounts of floating and submerged debris on the
lake as the water rises so please be cautious and wear a life jacket.
