Mark Twain Lake-March 26, 2009---Mark Twain Lake, in partnership with the St. Louis Area Geocachers Association and Mark Twain State Park, will again host the Midwest Open Geocaching Adventure (MOGA) on March 27-28, 2009. Geocaching competitors and participants from the United States and Canada will converge on Mark Twain Lake to compete in individual, two person, or four person cache-finding events. Sixty caches will be placed for this year’s competition, and remain in place after the event for visitors to find. In 2008, this event attracted over 800 people who competed, and fun-cachers who just enjoyed the thrill of the hunt. MOGA 2009 is already on track to surpass last year’s attendance. For those who may be unfamiliar with this activity, geocaching is a treasure hunt game utilizing a Global Positioning System unit (GPS) to seek hidden caches. Typical caches are surplus ammunition boxes or water-tight plastic containers containing a log book, and small trinkets. Players of the game hide caches, generally on public lands, and then post the cache’s longitude and latitude coordinates on a website such as www.geocaching.com. Mark Twain Lake currently has over 150 caches available to seek.
