Mark Twain Lake Fishing Report May 11, 2009 The 2009 spring weather has been unpredictable, to say the least. Weathermen have had a much tougher time than anglers. The best is yet to come for both. This past week Timber Ridge was packed with crappie fish'n folks and you know what; their success was quite surprising seeing that the lake level rose to 621. Fishing below the dam in the Salt River and rereg pool proved to be the best bet on crappie. From the bank or by boat, those that fished reported a strong bite with lots of smaller crappie and many "big 'ens." On the lake the Indian Creek arm gave anglers the best fishable water and bite. The crappie that were on the bank the week before moved out due to the rising and cooling water. Persistently jigging deep cove stick-ups did produce some nice crappie. The bite was not strong but those caught were large fish. The crappie have not spawned, in my opinion, so as the lake gets back to normal we'll have a ball. See you at Timber Ridge.
